The only large-scale, global summit focused purely on AI in healthcare – And CPD Accredited! Intelligent Health gathers the world’s brightest AI health brains from pharmaceutical, biotech, medtech, health provisions, clinicians, tech companies, startups, investment and science every September in Switzerland. We work in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and have a big focus on making sure the benefits of AI are distributed globally.

The mission? To progress discussions about how AI can be used to prevent and solve some of the world’s greatest healthcare problems, improve the health of the human race and set the global AI agenda in healthcare for 2020 and beyond.

Toby Cosgrove, MD, is former CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic. Serving from 2004 through 2017, he led the $8 billion organization to new heights of achievement and efficiency, seeing it ranked the #2 hospital in America (U.S. News). He currently serves as Executive Advisor, working with Cleveland Clinic leadership on strategies for national and international growth.

 

Dr. Cosgrove graduated from Williams College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brook General Hospital in London. In 1967, he was a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, earning a Bronze Star.

 

Dr. Cosgrove joined Cleveland Clinic in 1975, and chaired the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery from 1989 to 2004. He performed over 22,000 operations and earned an international reputation in valve repair He holds 30 patents for medical innovations. As CEO from 2004 to 2017, he reorganized services, improved outcomes and patient experience, and strengthened the organization’s finances.

 

He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. In 2016, he was a Fortune Businessperson of the Year (No. 14). Three successive presidents of the United States have consulted him on healthcare issues.

Trained as a nutritionist, Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Porto University; Master’s in Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Formerly: worked at national level on developing and implementing health promotion policies with the Ministry of Health in Portugal and the Institute of Preventive Medicine of the University of Lisbon; worked with the World Health Organization Headquarters on global guidelines and policy development for noncommunicable diseases. Currently, Head of System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Health and Healthcare and Member of the Executive Committee, World Economic Forum. The System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Health and Healthcare provides a dynamic platform for leading businesses, governments, civil society organizations and world class experts to shape the global health agenda; co-design and accelerate the implementation of collaborative approaches that transform the health ecosystem – across prevention, diagnosis, treatment, cure and maintenance of health; and ultimately enables populations to live healthier lives and have access to the care they need when they need it.

Dr. Heather Berlin is a cognitive neuroscientist and Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She practices clinical neuropsychology at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital in the Department of Neurological Surgery, and is a Visiting Scholar at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. She explores the neural basis of impulsive and compulsive psychiatric and neurological disorders with the aim of developing novel treatments. She is also interested in the brain basis of consciousness, dynamic unconscious processes, and creativity.

 

Passionate about science communication and promoting women in STEM, Berlin is a committee member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Science and Entertainment Exchange, and The New York Times series TimesTalks. She hosts Startalk All-Stars with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and hosted the PBS series Science Goes to the Movies, and the Discovery Channel series Superhuman Showdown. Dr. Berlin co-wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway and Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, Off the Top, about the neuroscience of improvisation. She has made numerous media appearances including on the BBC, History Channel, Netflix, National Geographic, NPR, and TEDx, and was featured in the documentary film Bill Nye: Science Guy. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Oxford and Master of Public Health from Harvard University.

With 20 years of experience, Jennifer brings deep healthcare, life sciences and biotechnology industry expertise along with a foundation in information and communication technology, and a view that spans across multiple other industries. Jennifer has a graduate degree from the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth College where she focused on Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is a full member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

Jennifer travels extensively around the world, regularly meeting with top leaders in industry and government. Jennifer advises start-ups focused on digital health, biotechnology, VR and artificial intelligence. She is active in policy initiatives on global health security and digital health, identifying novel ways technology can be used to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mark has a clinical background and has worked in the NHS as well as many senior leadership positions in global, European and start up healthcare companies throughout his career, with over 25 years of experience in the healthcare segment, Mark brings a wealth of experience and perspective and he is passionate about health and social care for everyone.

Dr. Dagher is an M.D./Ph.D. who studied Electrical Engineering and Medicine. He is a Neurologist and Professor at McGill University in Montreal (clinician and scientist). His research aims to understand brain reward systems and their role in neurological and psychiatric illness. He uses brain imaging, notably functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), to map brain activity in response to drugs or natural rewards like food and music. He is particularly interested in figuring out what in the brain makes individuals vulnerable to mental illness. He splits his professional life between clinical neurology and research and teaching. He sees people with Parkinson’s Disease in his clinic once a week. Dr. Dagher teaches medical students and Ph.D. students in neuroscience.

Dr. Ann Aerts has been Head of the Novartis Foundation since January 2013, where she has played a key role in devising new policy recommendations. She has the exciting responsibility of heading an organization committed to exploring innovative solutions to public health problems. The Novartis Foundation has the challenging goals of expanding access to quality healthcare and eliminating diseases such as leprosy and malaria. Before her current role, Ann was Franchise Medical Director Critical Care for Novartis Pharma in Basel and Therapeutic Area Head Cardiovascular and Metabolism in Novartis Pharma Belgium.

Prior to joining Novartis, she served as Director of the Lung and Tuberculosis Association in Belgium, as Head of the Health Services Department of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva and was Health Coordinator for the ICRC in several countries.

Roland Rott is the global General Manager of Women´s Health Ultrasound at GE Healthcare, the market leader of Ultrasound for Obstetrics/Gynecology worldwide. The Voluson product line for Women´s Health has been pioneering Ultrasound and AI technology and is touching more than 250 million lives globally every year.


Roland leads the global product organization, consisting of clinical and product management, research & development, installed base customer service, quality management and is responsible for innovation and manufacturing sites in Austria, Germany and Korea.


Before joining GE in 2011, Roland was Managing Director EMEA and Executive board member of Exact Software – a midcap public company headquartered in the Netherlands – leading 4 R&D teams and subsidiaries in 20 countries spanning over Europe/Middle/East, Africa & Asia. In his early career Roland had an entrepreneurial start, founded two software companies in Austria and successfully sold those to strategic investors.


Roland has software engineering background, studied International business administration and took executive education courses on strategy and Innovation in Stanford University and the London Business school. He is based in Vienna, Austria and lives there with his wife, two teenage kids and a toddler

Alexander Navarini is a clinical-scientist physician based in Basel, Switzerland. He is a quantitative dermatologist, experimental immunologist and trained in modern genetics.

Born in Basel, raised in Kantons GR and AG, medical studies in Basel and Paris. Training as MD PhD experimental immunologist in Zurich. Residency in internal medicine at Bruderholzspital, tropical medicine at Swiss Tropical Institute, and dermatology at University Hospital Zurich. Senior resident research fellowship in modern genomics at King’s College London. Was attending physician and deputy head of outpatient clinic at Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich. Since November 2018 Chair of Dermatology at the University Hospital of Basel.

Professor Peter Schmid-Grendelmeier was Swiss board certified for Dermatology in 1995 and Allergology in 1997 and became Professor for Allergy and Dermatology in 2003 at the University of Zürich, Switzerland. Since 2003, he has also been the head of the Allergy Unit of the Department of Dermatology of the University Hospital of Zürich.

His research focus is namely atopic dermatitis, urticaria and inhalant allergies; focusing on molecular allergy diagnosis and therapy. In addition he has a strong interest in tropical allergic skin diseases, having worked for several years in Peru and Tanzania. Professor Schmid-Grendelmeier has published more than 150 original articles and is a member of the editorial or review board of several well-established journals.

He serves on the board of various national and international societies. Currently he is President of the Swiss Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SSAI) and EAACI Vice President for Education and Specialty. He is also Director of Education at the Christine Kühne Center for Allergy Research and Education (www.ck-care.ch). Professor Peter Schmid-Grendelmeier also co-chairs the Swiss Expert group for Urticaria and is a member of the EAACI/WAO/AAAAI Urticaria Guideline Board.

Patrice Matchaba, M.D., has been Global Head of Corporate Responsibility for Novartis since October 1, 2017.

Dr. Matchaba most recently served as Global Head of the Cardio-Metabolic development unit at Novartis, where he led the global clinical development of the cardio-metabolic portfolio. He joined Novartis South Africa in 2000 as the Country Pharma Organization Chief Scientific Officer. Since moving to Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation in the United States in 2002, he has held several roles of increasing responsibility such as Therapeutic Area Head for Immunology and Infectious Diseases; Global Head of Drug Safety and Epidemiology; and Global Head of the Integrated Development Functions and Regions, which include Global Clinical Operations, Global Clinical Submissions, Integrated Information Sciences, Development Informatics, Development Diversity and Inclusion, and all Medical Country Pharma Organization regions.

Dr. Matchaba completed his medical training at the University of Zimbabwe, and is a fellow of the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology South Africa. In addition, he is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development.

A graduate of Université de Montreal and McGill University, Alexandra Greenhill practised as a physician in Quebec, Ontario and B.C. before moving into technology. From 2013-14 she was chief medical officer of Vancouver-based Medeo Virtual Care, the first direct-to-patient telehealth app in Canada, purchased by Kelowna-headquartered QHR Technologies Inc. in 2014.


In 2011, Greenhill co-founded myBestHelper, a social network that matches families with caregivers, and three years later she created Littlecodr, a card game to introduce kids to coding. Careteam Technologies Inc., a platform that connects patients and caregivers to coordinate treatment, was launched in 2016 and went live in January.


A mentor and a judge in many hackathons and startup weekends, she has received numerous awards, including Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards laureate, WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
