Yan has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, with a focus on R&D, application, management and innovation. She has been the General Manager of Baidu Intelligent Healthcare since 2018. During her role, she has launched the brand “Ling Yi Zhi Hui (Chinese name:灵医智惠) “ with the vision of “Evidence-based AI empowers primary healthcare”.

 

Prior to joining Baidu, she was the Staff R&D engineer at Google in the U.S., where she started her career in 2005.

 

Yan graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology. Yan serves as the Vice Chairman of Intelligent Hospital and Artificial Intelligence Application Working Committee of Chinese Medical Information and big data Association (CHMIA). She also serves as a leading advisory expert of Peking University Medical Science and Technology Innovation Project.

The Novartis Foundation focuses on innovating health and care for low-income populations, driven by data, digital and AI. Ann chairs the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development Working Group on Digital Health, is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health. Ann served as a member of the US National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine Committee on Improving the Quality of Health Care Globally and currently sits on the US National Academies of Medicine Commission on Healthy Longevity.

Before leading the Novartis Foundation, Ann was Franchise Medical Director Critical Care for Novartis Pharma in Basel and Therapeutic Area Head Cardiovascular and Metabolism for Novartis Pharma Belgium. 

Prior to joining Novartis, she served as Director of the Lung and Tuberculosis Association in Belgium and as Head of the Health Services Department of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva. She has also worked as Health Coordinator for the ICRC in several countries.

Ann holds a Degree in Medicine and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Leuven, Belgium, as well as a Degree in Tropical Medicine from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium.

Dr. Moore leads Microsoft’s Health efforts globally and is responsible for product strategy, product development, and research including AI and machine learning technology for healthcare and life sciences. He is also Microsoft’s senior executive leading dedicated research and development collaborations with Microsoft’s strategic alliance partners in this domain with the goal of enabling a more open, interoperable, and AI-infused foundation for healthcare delivery that aspires to enable access to healthcare for all globally.

Greg is an engineer (MIT PhD), practicing neuroradiologist, clinical informaticist, neuroscientist, and innovator experienced in assembling and inspiring highly talented teams to positively transform healthcare for the benefit of humankind. Prior to joining Microsoft, Greg was Vice President Google Inc, Google Cloud Healthcare & Life Sciences and founder of the healthcare vertical for Google Cloud. Prior to his leadership appointment at Google, he was Chief Emerging Technology and Informatics Officer at Geisinger Health System where he also was Director of the Institute for Advanced Application and served as Interim Chair of System Radiology. His prior appointments include Los Alamos National Laboratory (University of California), Wayne State University School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Penn State University Hershey Medical Center where he was a tenured Professor in the College of Medicine. Greg currently serves on the board Hillrom Inc, and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Moore is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Clinical Informatics and holds degrees from North Park College-Chicago (BS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SM-Nuclear Engineering and PhD-Radiological Sciences), and Wayne State University School of Medicine (MD-Doctor of Medicine) and completed residency in Diagnostic Radiology and a fellowship in Neuroradiology, both at Penn State University Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Abnousi is the Head of Health Technology at Facebook and a practicing Interventional Cardiologist. He also serves as Innovation Advisor to the American College of Cardiology, Professor Adjunct at Stanford University School of Medicine, and Assistant Professor Adjunct at Yale University School of Medicine. He has previously led innovative healthcare efforts at companies such as McKinsey and Google, and has served as Founder and CMO of CorDynamix Inc., an interventional heart failure company. Dr. Sema Sgaier leads Surgo Foundation’s strategy, operations, and partner relations. She works at the intersection of behavior, data, and technology, drawing on her extensive experience in policy, strategy, and management of development programs.  Sema has led several large-scale programs, as well as research and evaluation projects, and has worked with governments in India and Africa on public-health policy and large-scale delivery. 

Prior to joining Surgo Foundation, Sema held several roles at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She led a portfolio on voluntary medical male circumcision for HIV prevention across eastern and southern Africa. As part of the India Country Office, Sema led the scale-up of the foundation’s HIV prevention program (Avahan) in several states, managed its transition to the government of India, and developed data platforms for decision-making. 

Before joining the Gates Foundation, Sema was a neuroscience and genomics scholar at Harvard Medical School and a fellow with the Centre for Global Health Research. She is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and an Affiliate Assistant Professor, Global Health at the University of Washington. She also serves on the board of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Alumni Network. Sema was selected as a Rising Talent by the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society.  

Sema received her PhD in cellular and molecular biology (developmental genetics) from New York University, her MA in neuroscience from Brown University, and a BSc in molecular biology and genetics from Boğaziçi University (Istanbul).

Weihong Huang received the B.Eng. degree in automation and M.Eng. degree in pattern recognition and smart control from Southeast University China in 1995 and 1998 respectively and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Nanjing University China in 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow with the CNRS University Lyon 1 France. From 2002 to 2005, he was a lecturer with the Department of Computer Science, University of Hull, United Kingdom. From 2005 to 2014, he was a senior lecturer with School of Computer and Information Systems, Kingston University London, United Kingdom. Since 2016, he was appointed as a professor and the Depute Director of the Mobile Health Ministry of Education – China Mobile Joint Laboratory, Xiangya Hospital Central South University, China. His research interests include mobile health, artificial intelligence in healthcare, cognitive computing for healthcare, semantic multimedia computing and knowledge graph applications. Prof. Huang is a committee member of China Hospital Information Management Association, standing committee member of the Medical and Health Big Data Evaluation and Assurance board of the Chinese Health Information and Big Data Association, chairman of specialized committee of information management of Hunan Health Management Association.

Eric Karl Oermann, M.D. is an Instructor of Neurological Surgery in the Mount Sinai Health System and the Director of AISINAI, Mount Sinai’s artificial intelligence research group. He studied mathematics at Georgetown University with a focus on differential geometry. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Oermann spent six months with the President’s Council on Bioethics studying human dignity under the mentorship of physician-philosopher Edmund Pellegrino, M.D.. Dr. Oermann has won numerous awards for his scholarship including fellowships from the American Brain Tumor Association and Doris Duke Charitable Research Foundation where he was first exposed to neural networks and deep learning. He has published over eighty manuscripts spanning basic research on machine learning, deep learning, and the philosophy of medicine.

As a resident Dr. Oermann was selected as one of Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30” for his work in using machine learning to develop prognostic models for cancer patients. Dr. Oermann completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Google (Google Health / Verily Life Sciences). He is interested in weakly supervised learning, reinforcement learning with imperfect information, and in building artificial neural networks that more accurately model biological neural networks (“machines that think like humans”). As a physician, he is also interested in the application of deep learning to solve a wide range of practical problems in the medical sciences for improving clinical care.

Dr Natalie Banner is the Lead for Understanding Patient Data (UPD), an initiative hosted at the Wellcome Trust to support better conversations about how patient data is used for care and research. UPD works with patients, charities and health professionals to champion responsible uses of data, feeding into policy development, creating accessible resources and horizon scanning for emerging issues that may affect public confidence in the use of health data. This includes exploring emerging data-driven technologies and how to create the right ethical and governance frameworks for these in healthcare and research. Natalie formerly led Wellcome’s policy work on GDPR and data protection, seeking to ensure UK legislation and regulation creates a supportive, trustworthy environment for health research using patient and health-related data. She was recently named in BioBeat’s “50 Movers and Shakers in BioBusiness” for 2018.

Dr. Sonny Kohli is a practicing Physician in Internal Medicine and Critical Care and is Faculty at SingularityU Canada as well as McMaster University. In 2008/09, Sonny was a top 40 Astronaut Candidate in the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) recruitment campaign. He is also an alumnus of the International Space University, a trained flight surgeon with the Canadian Forces, and was awarded a CSA scholarship to Johnson Space Center & Wyle Labs. While studying at ISU, he helped deploy the Image Reversal In Space (IRIS) experiment on the International Space Station.

In 2010, while volunteering in post-earthquake Haiti, Sonny experienced first-hand the perils of inadequate health care faced by Earth’s most marginalized peoples. Intrigued by space-age and digital solutions to the world’s health problems, Sonny co-founded Cloud DX to create a fully autonomous ‘digital doctor’ called Vitaliti. Sonny and Cloud DX were bestowed as XPRIZE’s first ever ‘Bold Epic Innovator’ as part of the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition.
