The UK Science and Innovation Network (SIN) promotes and facilitates international collaboration in research and innovation. Science and Innovation is at the heart of the UK government’s strategy for promoting sustainable economic growth. There are around 100 SIN officers based in embassies or consulates in over 40 countries around the world. SIN runs activities to facilitate research collaboration between UK and Swiss universities, research institutions and public-private sector counterparts; jointly exploring access to national or European funding opportunities and leveraging resources. The network can also help UK research performing companies strengthen their capacity to innovate, by facilitating R&D partnership meetings and organising visits to benchmark or access Swiss knowledge and technologies. SIN encourages dialogue on Education, Research and Innovation between Swiss and UK policy makers and key players, looking at best practice in emerging science and technology, removing barriers to adoption and creating the right framework for innovation.

Jane took up her post as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein in December 2017. She served as British Ambassador to Norway from 2010-2014, and subsequently as the Chief Operating Officer of UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the government body responsible for promoting Britain’s commercial and business relationships around the world. Jane has held senior positions in the British High Commission in India, and British embassies in Japan and Vietnam, as well as working in the European Union department at the Foreign Office in London. She holds a BA in modern languages from Trinity College, Cambridge. Jane’s home town is Bilston in the West Midlands.

Tim is a UK doctor, who trained in Oxford as a nephrologist before joining the digital health revolution in 2000. He was CEO of the UK’s largest online network of doctors, www.doctors.net.uk, acquired by M3 Inc in 2011. He is now CEO of Cognitant Group Ltd, a company he founded with colleagues to empower people with trustworthy health information in engaging, accessible formats including animation and immersive formats (VR and AR). The company’s platform healthinote is used by thousands of doctors to provide personalised information for people with a wide variety of conditions to understand more about their health and treatment.

With over 39 years’ experience in leading companies, Paul is Managing Director of Ascom (UK) ñ a global solutions provider of ICT and workflow solutions for healthcare, retail, hospitality and industry. He is passionate about transforming operational effectiveness through communication, enabling organisations to make the best possible decisions ñ regardless of location.

At Ascom, he has overseen the move to a brand new HQ in Lichfield Staffordshire, the launch of our flagship nurse call system, a portfolio of mobile workflow solutions, and growth into acute and mental health hospitals. In other markets, he’s developed growth in four of the five major UK supermarkets, hotels and manufacturing plants, delivering mission-critical communications to improve staff safety, efficiency and patient/customer satisfaction.

Working in the UK and internationally at leading companies including GEC, Siemens and Virgin Media, his broad technology and communications experience covers both fixed and wireless, voice, video, data, mobility, cloud, digital and hosting.

Lukasz Rzeczkowski, the founder and a chief development officer of Trustedoctor (now part of Further Group). In the Group, Lukasz is currently responsible for creating a global medical network with partnerships with leading doctors and hospitals as well as developing a strategy for creating digital products and services focused on specialized medicine for corporate clients. He is a former capital market specialists with experience in consulting and fund management. Pro-bono, he serves as a governor of the Royal School. He is an alumnus of Warwick University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Professor Rachel McKendry is Director of i-sense EPSRC IRC and holds a joint position between the London Centre for Nanotechnology and Division of Medicine, UCL.

Her research lies at the cutting edge of nanotechnology, telecommunications, data science, infectious diseases and public health. Recent breakthroughs span from tiny quantum nanodiamonds to detect viruses earlier, to smartphone-connected tools to improve quality assurance of HIV testing, which have been adopted for HIV public health surveillance in South Africa. During the recent COVID-19 outbreak i-sense machine learning algorithms of online search data, adopted by Public Health England as an early warning sensing system for influenza, have been adapted to monitor prevalence of COVID-19 in England. Prof McKendry has also lead the development of data visualisation tools to inform public health interventions, including the FTTIS dashboard for England’s COVID-19 data.

Professor McKendry has won several prestigious awards for her research including the Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Award, Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award, the Institute of Physics Paterson Medal, and was one of the Grant Thornton 100 Face of a Vibrant Economy.

Wendy Lamin is MD and co-founder of Holoxica, a world leader in 3D medical visualisation whose mission is to bring real 3D to life, 3D without glasses/headsets. The pure 3D holographic experience will drive the human digital interaction of the future, recreate the authenticity of presence and humanise communications. Wendy brings people & organisations in the 21st digitally connected world. She has a Law Degree from the KU Leuven in Belgium.

As well as Naaut, Nush co-founded the London Space Network (LSN) in Jan 2019, the London Space Network organises monthly networking events across London to build and strengthen the UK space community. Nush has championed diversity across the global space and tech ecosystem. She was appointed POC tech community ambassador for Google for Startup Campus and has been a key figure across the ecosystem connecting people to networks. She champions diversity of perspectives to drive and foster collaboration to drive innovation as we take our steps to go back to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Dr Chris McKee’s role as the Business Development and Innovation Manager based in Leeds is to support the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT) in Research and Innovation, support both Leeds NIHR Medtech In Vitro Diagnostic Cooperatives, and support the University of Leeds to identify and engage with innovative medical/health technologies for future collaborations and NHS evaluations in areas of unmet clinical needs. Further to this he also works closely with the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network supporting their interests at a national level. This role involves engaging small to medium enterprises and larger corporates both nationally and internationally in order to establish future relationships and collaborations based in the Leeds City region and Wider AHSN networks working towards the joint benefit of industry partners, academics and the LTHT.

Brian Brown is a Director of the HAS Technology Group where he has been employed since 2009.  Brian’s is the Director for ARMED (Advanced Risk Monitoring for Early Detection).  Previously to this Brian was employed in other roles within the HAS Technology group, most recently as the Director of Scotland.  The ARMED solution combines pioneering predictive analytics modelling helps identify and predict individuals at escalating risk in particular to those at risk of falling, as well as indicating other frailty indicators.

A vastly experienced manager, Brian has a depth of background in Social Work services managing Local Authority Older People services both from a direct operational basis and at a senior strategic level.

Having previously completed his BA and eMBA, Brian commenced Professional Doctorate studies in 2017 at Glasgow Caledonian University researching the behavioural changes interventions of individuals using digital tools as well as strategic change interventions of statutory services.

Brian is a member of the Interface strategic board aligning business and academia.  He is also a trustee of a children’s mental health charity, Mind Mosaic.
